S. Adibul Hasan Rizvi
Dr Adib Rizvi acquired his MBBS in 1961 from Dow Medical College. He proceeded to UK and got his Fellowship in surgery from Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1967 and worked in various hospitals in UK till 1971. He then returned to Pakistan and was appointed as Assistant Professor of Urology in Civil hospital, Karachi. He started SIUT in 1972 as an 8-bedded unit which has become now the largest urology, nephrology and transplant centre of South Asia based on the model of community government partnership, offering all treatment free with dignity. He is the Professor of Urology and Director of SIUT. Dr Rizvi is the founder of ethical transplant programme in Pakistan and played a pivotal role in promulgation of transplant legislation to ban transplant tourism and allow deceased donation. He is also the pioneer of deceased donor programme and live related liver transplantation in the country. Prof. Rizvi is a member of 20 national and international societies of Urology and transplantation. He has been the Past Presidents of Middle East Society of Organ Transplantation, Transplant Society of SAARC, Asian Society of Transplantation, Pakistan Transplantation Society and Pakistan Association of Urological Surgeons. He has served TTS Ethics Committee and is a member of Declaration of Istanbul and WHO Advisory Panel on Organ Transplantation. He has received Ramon Magsaysay Award, Shaikh Hamdan Award, Dr. A. T. Shousha Medal, St. Paul’s Medal, Hunterian Professorship, Felix T. Rapaport award, National Kidney Foundation Medal and two highest civil awards from Government of Pakistan for his immense contributions in the field of
