Dr. Altaf Hashmi

Dr. Altaf Hashmi had graduated in 1980 from Sindh Medical College (peresently JSMU) and immediately joined SIUT (Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation). Since then he has been affiliated with the Institute in various academic capacities. Dr Hashmi was conferred Masters in Urology by the University of Karachi in 1991. He went to Paris, France in 1995 where he was trained in Uro-oncology and Renal Transplantation at Hospital Tenon and Pitie-Selpetriere.
He had started his academic career as Assistant Professor of Urology in 1993 at SIUT. He was promoted to the position of Associate Professor in 1998 and then Professor in 2001. He was actively involved in the management of patients besides teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students. He had supervised Dissertation/Theses of more than 50 students and is a senior examiner at the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan.Scientifically his main interests are in Transplant Sciences, Surgical Oncology and Urolithiasis. He has been invited many a times for presentations Nationally and Internationally. He has more than 150 articles published in peer reviewed journals, over 100 oral and poster presentations to his credit.
Administratively he had remained in the steering committees of Finance, technical purchase and pharmacy. He was instrumental in automation and implementation of Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Hospital Management System (HIS). In recognition of his services in the field of medicine president of Pakistan conferred him national civil award SITARA E IMTIAZ
Dr. Altaf Hashmi is the current President of Pakistan Society of Robotic Surgery (PSRS).
