LECTURE ON CADAVER ORGAN DONATION AT JPMC

A well attended function was held at JPMC ( Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center ) for creating mass awareness and mobilizing the public towards cadaver organ donation program.The event was jointly organized by SIUT and JPMC.
Director SIUT Professor Adib Rizvi gave an inspiring lecture and persuaded the doctors, nurses and other paramedics to come forward and fill out pledge forms announcing that they would donate their organs after death for saving the lives of millions of people.
Strongly adovcating the importance of cadaver organ donation Prof.Adib said " most of the Islamic schools of thought have given "Fatwas" (religious decrees) in favor of cadaver donation. Describing as heroes of our society those who pledged to donate their organs, Director SIUT said "such people never die as those who receive the organs always pray for them and remember them in good words".
Prof. Rizvi cited the example of renowned social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi who donated his both eyes after death saying that his corneas would give sight to the two persons.He pointed out that in Pakistan hundreds of people die due to organ failures and their lives could be saved with cadaver donation..Dr Seemin Jamali and Dr Raza Rizvi of JPMC also spoke on the occasion. Forty doctors and paramedics pledged to donate their organs after death.Pledge forms and necessary formalities were carried out by SIUT staff.
A similar event was organized at Liaquat National Hospital in recent past.
